There are many things about the Radleys and the Radley house that arouse suspicion within the community. One major thing that arouses suspicion in the community of Maycomb that the Radleys do is that they hardly ever left their house, except when Mr.Radley left the house at 11:30 to go into town and come back at 12:00 usually with a brown bag. The Radley house was creepy looking. It had rain rotted shingles and the house lost its color just like the yard. There is also a legend that Boo Radley was cutting pictures out of The Maycomb Tribune to put in a scrap book. When Mr.Radley come into the room, Boo stabbed the scissors into his fathers legs, and resumed his activities. Another thing that was creepy about Mr.Radley was that whenever someone would greet him, he would just cough and not respond. Those are some of the reasons that the Radleys and the Radley house aroused suspicion within the community.

Scout's first morning of school had many interesting events occur. The first event that occurred was that Miss Caroline Fisher accuses someone of teaching Scout to read and that they should stop. She said it was interfering with her reading. The next thing that happened was that when Miss Caroline asked everyone to put their lunch on their desk. When Walter Cunningham had no lunch to put on his desk, Miss Caroline asked if he had no lunch. He finally said yes. Then Miss Caroline offered him a quarter, and he wouldn't take it. Scout had to explain that he wouldn't take anything he could not pay back. I think Miss Caroline is a strict, young, and inexperienced teacher. I think she is strict because she would slap Scout with a ruler when he misbehaved. She is inexperienced because she reprehended Scout for already knowing how to read. That is how Scout's first day of school went and what I think of her teacher.

Chapter Three Response:
Miss Caroline cried due to what happened the first day in the classroom. She had come most likely expecting everything to go well and probably excited about her job. Instead, everything went wrong and not as she expected. If she knew more about Maycomb and those who lived there then she could have avoided conflicts with Burris Euwell (which resulted in her crying,)and with Scout. By doing this the first day of school would have been much easier for Miss Caroline.

During Scouts first morning a few strange events happen to her. One event is that her teacher Miss Caroline Fisher tells her not to read and that who ever is teaching her to read to stop. This way the damage can be undone. When Miss Caroline find out that Scout can write she gets more angry at Scout and Scout doesn't know why.A third event that happens during Scouts first day at school is that when the students are told to take out their lunch. One student ,Walter Cunningham, has no lunch. Miss Caroline offers him a quarter, but he wont take it.When Scout tries to explain why he wont take it Miss Caroline gets even more upset with her.I think that Miss Caroline has a very strange way of teaching, telling children not to read or write is very weird.I think that Miss Caroline is a little strict and that is probably because it is her first time teaching

Chapter 2:
Scouts first day of school was a dramatic change. Starting off, his new teacher, Caroline Fisher, convicted Scout of his father teaching him how to read. Secondly, she became even more angry when she found out that Scout could write, which she said the students would not begin until 3rd grade. She thought that Scout was disobeying her request to stop listening to his father. Lastly, she offered Walter Cunningham a quarter for a lie of when he said he forgot to bring his lunch. She told him to pay her back when Scout had to explain Walter's troubles with money. I think that Caroline Fisher is very strict, rude, and has no knowledge what-so-ever of how her students live.

These are very good comments!

Tyler b - Nice descriptions!

Cailin d - Good reasoning!

Shannon o - Good description!

Ron S - Good descrition! Scout, however, is a girl. I was also confused as to whether Scout was a boy or girl when I began reading the book.

Chapter 2- Scout's first morning at school was a rough one. In the morning, Mrs. Caroline, Scout's teacher, tells her to stop reading. She tells her to tell Atticus to stop teaching her. She tries to tell Ms. Caroline that it wasn't Atticus, but she doesnt listen. When it was time for lunch, everyone puts their lunch on their desks, except Walter Cunningham. Mrs. Caroline offers him a quarter, but he can't take it. Walter asks Scout to explain for him. She says, "He can't take that quarter. He's a Cunningham, ma'am." She explains that he doesn't take anything he can't pay back. Later, because she misbehaved, she was hit with a ruler. I think Ms. Caroline's teaching style is odd, but I do think she means well.
