Chapter 21
Jem said to Scout, “There are thing you don’t understand.” What did he mean by that?

Chapter 22
As you have been getting to know Jem Finch, describe his morals. Use examples from the book to support your answer.

Chapter 23
Jem was not happy about a law in Alabama and wanted Atticus to change it. Is there a certain law in your state that you would like to change? What law is it, what would you change about it, and how would you change it?

Chapter 24
Do you think that Scout will become a lady? Why/why not?

Chapter 25
Mr. Ewell said, “It made one down and about two more to go.” Who are the other two that Mr. Ewell is referring to? Why did you chose those two people?

CH 23

This is kind of an odd law, there are a lot of them...

455 CMR 2.01 and 2.04(2). (a)Where uniforms require dry-cleaning, commercial laundering, or other special treatment, the employee shall be reimbursed for the actual costs of such service to the extent that these costs reduce the employee's hourly rate below the basic minimum wage. Where uniforms are made of "wash and wear" materials, that do not require special treatment, and that are routinely washed and dried with other personal garments, the employer need not reimburse the employee for uniform maintenance costs. (b) No deposit shall be required by the employer from an employee for a uniform or for any other purpose, except by permission of the Director.

I think that this law is kind of unfair. This is because it is one thing to let your employee pay when you pay them a lot. Most people with uniforms, however, are payed minimum wage, they shouldn't have to pay for the extra money to wash even that extra piece of clothing. Doesn't really matter though.

Caitlin F.,
I am quite impressed with your research. I agree with you. If an employer requires an employee to wear a certain uniform no matter how it is cleaned the employer should reimburse the employee. I am curious as to why you chose that law.
